“Sopranos” Actors Say Fake Facebook Accounts Are Scamming Fans

Over the years, Facebook scammers have thought up hundreds of ways to separate users from their hard-earned money. However, one of the most common tactics involves creating fake accounts to impersonate celebrities. These accounts are often used to pitch fraudulent products or offer services from the celeb that don’t exist. That’s what happened recently to the cast of the popular TV show The Sopranos, with many members claiming they’re being impersonated on Facebook to sell fake merchandise and memorabilia.

One cast member, Vincent Curatola, only found out about the fake profile when Facebook users began angrily contacting him about personalized videos and tickets to his acting workshop that they purchased from his imposter.

“They are angry. They paid a lot of money. There are sad stories — grandfathers who bought acting lessons for their grandchildren,” Vincent Curatola’s wife Maureen told The Boston Globe. “Facebook has done nothing. We reported it to the fraud department. They allow this to go on and on.”

Indeed, one of the most common complaints about Facebook is that it doesn’t act fast enough to help victims of fraud. And if celebrities can’t even get the social media giant to help out, it’s doubtful the rest of us can, either.
