Laidlaw reports via a LinkedIn blog post that he is going to work with a game that has not yet been announced. After his departure from BioWare in October 2017, he became an independent consultant. For example, he already gave advice to Ubisoft Quebec. The studio is smaller than the main studio in Montreal, but has developed, among others, Rainbow Six: Siege, South Park: The Fractured But Whole and Assassin’s Creed Odyssey.
In February 2003 Laidlaw started with BioWare as head writer for the Jade Empire series. Five years later, in 2008, he became the chief designer for Dragon Age: Origins and for the subsequent games. Between November 2017 and December 2018 he was involved in the development of The Waylanders, a Dragon Age: Origins-inspired rpg by the Spanish studio Gato Salvaje. A Kickstarter campaign was set up for this and the collection target was reached on 17 November.
