Apple wants to take over part of British maker of chips

for power management
Apple wants to take over part of Dialog Semiconductor, the British manufacturer of chips for power management in iPhones. Three hundred people from the company will be working at Apple, presumably so that Apple can make its own chips for energy management.

Apple wants to pay the British company $ 300 million for the partial takeover, while it makes another $ 300 million as a prepayment for making chips in the next three years, says Dialog . There will also be 300 people working for Apple at four locations of Dialog, namely the British Swindon, the Italian Livorno, and Neuaubing and Nabern in Germany. It concerns about one-sixth of Dialog’s employees and a number of buildings.

The American electronics maker already had people in countries such as Germany to work on energy management chips . Presumably the manufacturer wants to switch completely in the future to own power management integrated circuits , or pmics. The iPhone XS Max has an Apple PMIC, where the iPhone XS has a Dialog chip, reported TechInsights earlier.

Apple ordered Dialog according to the company 30 percent fewer chips this year than previous years, according to the company director pointed out that Apple had switched to another supplier or an Apple chip for power management for one of the three iPhones. That now seems to be right.

Dialog is dependent on Apple for a considerable part of the turnover, which means that the American company’s move to make its own PMics has major consequences. The deal is not round yet; relevant authorities still have to give their approval. According to both companies, that would happen within eight months.
