Insights from Day 1 – VMworld 2018

Tens of thousands of partners, customers and IT leaders gathered at VMworld 2018, Las Vegas. The first day feels like a prelude into what to expect for the rest of the show and future trends.

Catalyst Club

Last night, CenturyLink and Vmware presented the awards to some of the inaugural members of the Catalyst Club. The Catalyst Club represents a distinguished group of business and IT leaders from various industries and geographies – and each using a combination of CenturyLink and VMware solutions and services to stay ahead of the competition.

We are thrilled to welcome new innovators to the Catalyst Club. Congratulations to Ingram Micro, 2018 Partnership Award Winner.

CenturyLink and VMware have launched the Catalyst Club, one of the industry’s first leader-oriented networks designed to recognize IT experts and demonstrate their innovative use of technology to build value and drive growth. (PRNewsfoto/CenturyLink, Inc.)

General Session:

General Session is always a great place to hear the latest announcement from VMware, and this year is no exception, VMWare announced:

  • App-Centric Security with NSX, “We’ve extended the NXS capabilities to individual VMs so you’re able to do per app micro-segmentation now on VMWare cloud on AWS.
  • New high capacity storage option for VMware cloud on AWS partners
  • VMware cloud on AWS is now available in Asia Pacific

As a Vmware Cloud Verified Partner, and an AWS Managed Services Provider, we are especially excited to see the continued evolution of these solutions.

Sessions!

Today, Dave Shacochis presented on Milliseconds Matter. Dave took attendees of the session through use cases that demonstrate how important it is to develop solutions that can support Any App, Any Device on Any Cloud. He then led a demonstration of the CenturyLink solutions. Did you miss Dave’s session today? No worries! He’ll be presenting in the CenturyLink booth, #1436 tomorrow (Tuesday, 8/29) at 1:00 PT for a recap.  There are still two more great sessions this week (including mine).

In the Digital Economy, delighting customers means providing frictionless, intuitive experiences that meet them precisely where and when they want products and services. Providing meaningful, positive customer interactions requires rapid development cycles onto complex systems. Selecting the best execution venue for your cloud applications can make all the difference in your customer experience. CenturyLink experts will discuss the factors to consider when selecting the right cloud environment, and the benefits of VMware Cloud Foundation.

As a VMware “Cloud Verified” provider, CenturyLink will provide a deep dive on emerging use cases and successes from our many engagements in the VMware Cloud.

Join me to learn the keys to success in the VMware Cloud and the pitfalls to avoid when migrating your essential workloads.

Our New World – Hyper Converged and Software Defined

CenturyLink and VMware have joined forces to create a powerful and easy-to-consume hybrid cloud infrastructure with software-defined network and storage. Join us as we dive into the components that make up VMware Cloud Foundation and the common add-on options available from CenturyLink. Find out how adding monitoring, management, and automation products enables IT organizations to realize the benefits of self-service together with the secure, rapid delivery of infrastructure, applications, and services across a hosted private cloud. Learn how CenturyLink uses software-defined networking to simplify your infrastructure that, in turn, saves you time and money.

Steve Nolen, Hosted Private Cloud Product Manager for Century Link, and David Liang, Senior Product Manager for VMware will help you understand the value of moving to a hosted private cloud versus doing it yourself.

The Cube

Today Geoff Thompson from VMware and I sat down with the analysts on The Cube to talk about use cases for success in the era of software defined data centers. Tune in at thecube.net to watch the replay of our great conversation!
