The Spiderwick Chronicles' The Wrath of Mulgarath Book Summary

* summary contains spoiler, you may skip ahead and read my opinionated review

As the Grace siblings return home from the Quarry, they notice something wrong. Byron is fighting Goblins at the roof of their house. The Grace siblings panicked. They went inside. The place was devastated by Goblins. They found the teary Thimbletack telling them 'they got their mother' and point them up at the top of their house where there is still remaining goblin to be investigated. They found out it's Hogsquel, a hobgoblin and not a goblin. Hogsquel guided them the way to Mulgarath's lair.

They flew to Mulgarath's lair with Byron the griffin pet by Simon. They fight goblins. They fight salamander which turned into a full Dragon because of a cow's milk. And finally gone up to the trash tower of Mulgarath. Inside they met their father which in turn is not. It's Mulgarath in-disguise.

So they fought Mulgarath and defeated by Hogsqueal.

NOTE: some part of the story was intentionally omitted in the above summary.

The end of Mulgarath is so quick and I'm kind of feel unsatisfied. The farewell part is very poignant for people who have a broken family. It's just that there is a reason why our love ones leave us. It would be disheartening if Aunt Lucinda didn't know why his father Arthur left her without any reason. After all, It's a happy ending.

Lastly, I would like to urge the authors of this book to continue writing stories about faeries.

My final rating for this book: 4.0 / 5.0
