The speed of moving air should be relatively high for mechanical power to be produced in large amounts. This results to high electricity production.

Mills that propel in the presence of high velocity moving air are basically classified into several classes. For example, mills are either mounted on terrains vertically or horizontally. Both vertical and horizontal turbines have equal capabilities of manipulating moving air. Turbines are additionally found on relatively flat lands and on natural water bodies like seas and oceans. Devices built on natural water bodies can be referred to offshore turbines. They have a greater production potential and this is why more offshore mills are built these days.

Mills are also classified based on the capacity to produce electric power. For example, a typical turbine produces at least one hundred units of kilowatts. Other turbines have the capability to generate more power and this depends on their mechanical structure. These machines are normally constructed on open terrains and are positioned effectively to facilitate the production of bulk power.

Mills that produce less than one hundred kilowatts are used to power houses, water pumps and telecom dishes. These mills can also be connected to batteries, diesel generators and photovoltaic systems because of the little electric charge that is produced. Small turbines are referred to hybrid moving air systems since they are mostly utilized in remote and off grid places where utility grid connections are scarce.

There is an electrical power variation recorded frequently as moving air gets into contact with turbines. This variation determines the aggregate power amount that a certain machine can produce. Electricity generated usually fluctuates in voltage because of climatic conditions such as rainfall and humidity. To be precise, during rainy season, air velocity is very high as compared to other calm weather seasons.

The wind sector is a lucrative economic field based on the revenues amassed. Large mills are frequently constructed these days to tap moving air hence reducing the costs of operating other power sources such as hydroelectric power projects. This industry is also receiving a lot of financial support and this has enabled it to grow exponentially.
