Memorial Day is a federal holiday in remembrance to all the people who died while in service to the United States armed forces. It is a widely commemorated day where people in all classes come together to honor family and friends who have risked their lives to protect their country and countrymen. The importance of this day along with the traditions should live on. Hence, it is the duty of the parents and guardians to introduce and teach the young ones of its significance.
There are many ways that we can impart the value of Memorial Day in our lives. We can include them in the traditions, tell them stories, allow them to watch movies appropriate for their age, or make Memorial Day Craft for kids. Here is one easy to do craft that you and your kids will most certainly enjoy creating.
Memorial Day Craft for Kids – Popsicle Stick Flag
Paint (Red and White)
Paintbrush
Blue Construction Paper
Printed Star Template on Sticker Paper
Popsicle Sticks
Glue
Scissors
Instructions:
1. Form the Memorial Day Craft Base. Step 1
Arrange the Popsicle sticks accordingly. Position 1 stick vertically. Then place 5 sticks over horizontally. Permanently fixed the stick-form with glue. Generously apply glue on sticks for a sturdy Memorial Day Craft Base. Leave to dry.
2. Paint the Memorial Day Craft Base. Step 2
Alternately paint the horizontal sticks in red and white colors. Apply medium to heavy strokes to highlight the shades; and to make the craft seem catchy and vibrant.
Leave to dry.
3. Add the Memorial Day Craft Canton*. Step 3
Get the blue construction paper and cut an estimated size. Glue the cut piece accordingly.
*The Canton is the blue rectangular or square piece located at the leftmost part of the flag.
4. Put on the Memorial Day Craft Stars. Step 4
Take the printed Star template on sticker paper. Cut the stars and stick over the Canton accordingly.
Tip: It is better to print the Star template beforehand. This will allow the printer ink or toner to fully dry or stick on sticker paper.
