On a recent trip to Dubai I boldly took along my blackberry device activated for Roaming as I wanted to prove you could actually manage your blackberry data roaming usage.
On arrival I activated [allowed] data roaming but switched it off after 2 minute interval.
Intermittently over the next 11 days I put on my data roaming for varying intervals between 5-7 minutes to check for emails, chats messages and I quickly replied important messages.
The trick is not to leave your data roaming on for too long at any point in time. It would be foolhardy of course if you forgot to switch it off after checking your messages.
Averagely I switched it on between 3-5 times a day for varying intervals of 5-7mins.
I only reached the 7 minute mark once because I was waiting for a quick feedback.
All in a ll my total roaming usage was less than $130 for data, voice and SMS.
So you too can actually travel with your blackberry device and enjoy roaming at manageable costs.
You just have to be very savvy about your usage.
