- Log-in the the Available Wi-Fi networks at the Airport in your Destination country to quickly tell family and friends you have arrived safely or inform you host or hotel that you are in town; could either be free or paid. Even when its is at a cost the fee is usually minimal.
- Log-in to the available Wi-Fi network in your hotel for more detailed correspondence or to send and receive emails, most hotels have Wi-Fi just ask if you are not sure and many of them would offer it to you for free or as part of your room and board or in the worst case at a very minimal fee.
- Log-in to available Wi-Fi at Shopping Malls, Cafes and Restaurants around town; these are most of the time free be sure to ask as you move from place to place.
With these available Wi-Fi hotspots mentioned above you would sure enjoy data roaming and be able to keep abreast of your emails and social networking communication by logging in at various intervals.
You could even make Voice calls on Skype, Tango or any other OTT service which can ride on a Wi-Fi connectivity as a response to those who call your normal mobile line from your home network [You may want to avoid picking calls to further save costs here]
The most important thing is that your total accrued charges for roaming on these Wi-Fi networks would be very minimal or free as the case may be.
The only minus here is that you would not be able to respond to voice calls but would be able to respond to them in various other ways when you see the number who is trying to reach you on your normal home mobile line. Your availability would only be via emails and Social Networks feeds or Skype/Tango Calls.
For constant real time communication at all times you may choose to combine Wi-Fi and Normal data Roaming as provided by your home network provider. This may be necessary for the businessman or woman who has various meetings lined up and needs to keep in touch very regularly.
In this case they would complement each other and you would alternate between Wi-Fi and Normal data roaming based on availability/need and this would surely help you manage your data costs and greatly minimize roaming charges from your home network provider.
