Publish or perish

Publish or perish, but also get cited is one of the most popular maxim among Scientists. Every scientist wants to gain great visibility of his/ her work. It is important not only for Scientific advance, but also for scientist’s survival.

Indeed, when scientists don’t publish for a number of reasons, it becomes more difficult to be funded and continue the research. However, it is also important to get cited because the number of citations directly impact on the journal standing in the impact factor which is another parameter used to evaluate scientific work.

Currently, the system of knowledge dissemination is not only limited to scientific journals or academia, but websites and social networks can strongly contribute to researcher’s career success. Already in 1991, the New England Journal of Medicine published an interesting article about the direct relationship among the number of citations and the appearance on lay journals, and scientific works that were described on Times cover gained popularity for long time also in the scientific community. Based on these observations, Kudos -a website user base- was launched in 2014 to help scientists to promote their work among colleagues, associations and other institutions. Kudos have more than 100000 users and it may be useful also to promote science among lay public.
