As year 2023 continues and human society continues to evolve in technology and innovations, it seems like a lot of the events we are witnessing today were already predicted. As of the end of 2022, this year was expected to make a difference from that of the previous year in every perspective. While many set new plans for the remaining part of the year and for next year, there are people who were busy in predicting the future through research and other means such as interpretation of ancient prophesies.

Predictions have always been a source of intrigue and fascination, but when it comes to 2023, 2024 and 2025, some of the predictions can be downright scary.

From the rise of artificial intelligence (AI) to the potential global economic collapse, the next year could spell out drastic changes for our world that no one wants to witness. The truth is that not all predictions come true, but what if? Remains a hard question. Notwithstanding, in this blog post, we'll explore some of the scariest predictions for the next 3 years.

1. Global Devastation Caused by Solar Storm

There are multiple predictions about possible solar storms between 2023 to 2025. Solar storms are caused by intense solar activity, such as solar flares and coronal mass ejections (CMEs). CMEs can produce strong magnetic fields which can create geomagnetic storms that can disrupt power grids, navigation systems, and communications systems.

Due to the unpredictable nature of the solar activity, predictions of exact solar storm dates are difficult to make. However, solar activity is monitored by spacecraft, such as the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO), and ground-based observatories, and scientists use these observational data to make predictions of when a solar storm may occur.

One of the most alarming 2023 predictions about solar storms is attributed to Baba Vanga, a Bulgarian mystic and herbalist, who was born blind but gifted in making accurate predictions.

In other reports, the sun is approaching the peak of its 11-year-long solar cycle! The solar maximum is expected to occur between 2023 and 2025 at the end of the Sun's 11-year cycle.

In this time frame, the sun will be most unstable as its volatility peaks. That indicates that several sunspots are anticipated to erupt simultaneously during this time. This unstoppable event might cause a deadly solar storm to hit Earth and that would mean serious destruction to our technology and the world as we know it.

The earth's destructive solar storm was last recorded in history in the Carrington Event of 1859. In that year, the solar storm knocked out telegraph networks and even caused fires and electric shocks. Should this take place in 2023, it will disrupt the global communication system, destroy electric grids, cause multiple land and aircraft accidents, and take millions of lives.

The good news is that scientists are yet to confirm that the current solar cycle will get to such a destructive level, even though they cannot refute the prediction.

2. Proliferation of Artificial intelligence (AI) that Surpass Human Intelligence

There is a great concern over the rise of artificial intelligence (AI) that would surpass human intellect. This has been portrayed in several cinematic movies where computers are so intelligent that they begin to take over the world and fight humans. It may not go this far by 2023, but it is expected that the year might be the beginning of humans' overdependency on technology.

Competition is ongoing in the technological world. There are also signs that AI may replace humans in several areas in the next 3 years. This could be attested by the recent month's rise in OpenAI technology and its Chat-Bot-GBT.

Between 2023-2025, robotaxi services will rapidly transition from a fascinating novelty to a viable, convenient—even mundane—way to get around megacities. This means vehicles will soon begin to drive themselves and such a surge in autonomous devices has unpredictable consequences.

A report by Forbes predicts that search will change more in 2023 than it has since Google went mainstream in the early 2000s. Unlike google search results that give a list of answers to a query, with the rise in the likes of Open AI and Stability AI, a result will mean a specific answer.

This will limit human exposure to more knowledge accumulation, information sharing and will affect the way young people place effort in studies and research. This is not limited to specific AIs but encompasses intelligent robots, humanoids, and cyborgs.

Already, Tesla CEO and World's richest man Elon Musk recently announced that the company is set to install its Neuralink chips into the human brain. Whatever consequence that may have on man remains unknown.

3. Global warming will cause sea levels to rise significantly

Global warming has been a major environmental and geographical subject of concern in recent years. 2022 saw several devastations and destructions caused by floods and storms associated with global warming.

In September 2022, a devastating flood killed thousands in Pakistan and displaced millions. This had also been the case in Delta, Benue, and Edo States of Nigeria. In total, over 1.3 million people were displaced and about 82,000 houses were destroyed in Nigeria by 2022.

It is predicted that the global temperature will continue to surge. A report by the African Center for Strategic Studies projects sea level to rise by 0.3 meters by 2030 which will affect about 117 million Africans. This predicted rise in sea level is also expected in the US and other parts of the World.

The multiple reports on the rising temperature melting of icebergs at the earth's poles show that flooding events will continue in 2023 and beyond which makes the whole thing scary, especially for those living in coastal regions of the world.

4. A Major Global Conflict or the Third World War (WWIII)

The famous French philosopher and prophet Michel de Nostradame, popularly known as Nostradamus, in his book 'Les Proféties', published over 450 years ago made several accurate predictions and/or prophesies about the future.

Some of his predictions that came to pass included everything from the rise of Adolf Hitler, the assassination of the former US president, John F. Kennedy, and the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center in New York, by Al Qaeda's Osama Bin Laden.

About 2023-2025, Nostradamus spoke on "Seven months of the Great War, people dead from wickedness". Some believe this prophecy was about a major global conflict that would result from the ongoing war in Ukraine.

Many fear the war in Ukraine may take a new phase between in the next 3 years that can metamorphose into World War III. Nostradamus was not the only one who predicted possible WWIII. Baba Vanga, also predicted a third world war could break out this period.

Nostradamus also predicted asteroid strikes, inflation, famine, and robots that would invade Earth in the future, which he referred to as the end time. None of this had happened yet, and conspiracy theories claim this might happen next year.

Besides the Ukrainian war, other conflicts that may lead to WWII include the China-Taiwan conflict. There had been tension in recent times with Chinese President Xi Jinping continuing to make moves over taking over Taiwan against the United States and Taiwanese wills. Also, the North Korean and South Korean conflicts are other cases to ponder about as that which can cause a major global fight.

5. Global Economic Collapse due to Rise in Inflation, Unemployment, and Cost of Living

It is difficult to predict the exact level of inflation in 2023 because the rate of inflation is influenced by a variety of factors such as the strength of the economy, the level of employment, and the availability of resources. However, according to some economists, it is likely that there will be a rise in inflation in 2023 due to the increasing cost of living, the expected rise in global commodity prices, and the potential for further rounds of quantitative easing.

In addition, the unemployment level is expected to rise by 2023 and worsen in the coming years. After the Covid-19 pandemic, a lot of companies struggled to survive the economic consequences of the lockdown. The result of layoffs of employees left many jobless even as of 2022.

The rate of unemployment may surge in the coming years because most organizations do not seem to have a positive increase in the entire economic output.

In recent months, before the end of 2022, tech giants had already dismissed several of their workers. For instance, in November 2022, Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta announced the company's plan to lay off 13% of its staff which is more than 11000 employees this happen while Elon Musk sacked several staff on taking over Twitter. A total of 4,400 employees were reportedly fired by Musk which amounts to about 50% of Twitter's global workforce.

These are just a few instances of job loss by the end of 2022. All these people who lost their jobs are adding up to the already existing global unemployed population.

Statistica reports that Between 2019 and 2020, the number of unemployed people worldwide increased from 185.95 million to 223.67 million. This is expected to rise as the global economy continues to tumble in war, instability, and the aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The good news: Other researchers believe that there can be a positive economic increase in 2023. According to them, the global economy is expected to improve in 2023, with an increase in growth, investment, and job creation. Factors such as increased consumer spending, increased government spending, and an increase in international trade could all contribute to a positive economic increase in 2023.

6. The Propagation of Autonomous Weapons

As the world continues to move towards an increasingly digital age, the proliferation of autonomous weapons and self-driving military devices is becoming an increasingly pressing issue. From drones to autonomous submarines, the use of these weapons by states and non-state actors alike is becoming increasingly common.

With the advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics, these weapons are becoming more capable of making decisions independent of human input or control and the debate remains whether those machines would be able to make positive decisions as consciously as humans would do.

Between 2023-2025, the proliferation of autonomous weapons is expected to increase significantly. In the coming years, we can expect to see more autonomous weapons being used in both military and civilian applications. For example, autonomous weapons could be used for surveillance, border patrol, and even for policing purposes. Autonomous weapons could also be used for more aggressive purposes, such as offensive military operations.

Using the Russian war in Ukraine as a case study, Russia would not access most Ukrainian cities like Kyiv to stage its devastating attacks without the use of aerial vehicles like drones and remote devices. Should autonomous weapons join the current battlefield, it is going to cause greater devastation and casualty over the human direct battle.

The increasing proliferation of autonomous weapons could also have a profound effect on international relations and could potentially lead to an arms race. As countries race to create the most advanced autonomous weapons, they could become even more powerful than traditional weapons which could potentially lead to an escalation of hostilities between states.

Autonomous weapons could be used to target civilians, and the lack of human oversight could lead to unintended civilian casualties. In addition, autonomous weapons could be hacked or hijacked by malicious actors, leading to greater destruction than traditional weapons.

7. Probable Nuclear Conflict

The increasing tension between major powers, especially Russia, China, North Korea, and the United States could lead to a nuclear conflict, which could cause devastating damage to the environment and human life.

The Russian president, Vladimir Putin, had constantly threatened to employ nuclear weapons should there be any threat against his country by NATO over the ongoing war in Ukraine. What this means is ambiguous. Nonetheless, Russian law allows the use of nuclear weapons in case of an external force tries to invade the country.

With Putin's declaration of some parts of Ukraine as Russia, it is not clear if the nuclear law involves that region. If yes, then the unexpected may occur as Ukraine continues to fight to recover all its lost territories from Russia.

Moreover, North Korean, Kim Jung-on is another unpredictable leader in case of nuclear threats. meanwhile, the possibility of nuclear war is very narrow because that would mean a global war, WWIII. In order words, the use of nuclear weapons would result in World War III.

In conclusion, things that could happen in the next 3 years (2023, 2024 and 2025 periods) are certainly concerning and scary, and it is difficult to know if any or all of these doomsday scenarios will come to pass. However, predictions are not facts and there is no assurance that they would happen. The essence of predictions is to be make people more cautious, be mindful of their actions, and strive to make decisions that will ensure a safe and prosperous future for everyone and for generations to come.

Let's believe the coming years are going to be wonderful and hopeful years. Although we can hope for the best, it is important to prepare for the worst and take steps to mitigate any potential risks that might arise from the scenarios discussed in this article. With the right attitude and collective effort, everyone can work together to ensure that these predictions remain merely a grim warning and not a reality.
