US Presidential Election: Early primaries don’t inspire excitement

New Hampshire : New Hampshire is one of the states where the primaries of the Democratic presidential candidates are held immediately after South Carolina.

A survey of New Hampshire Democratic voters found they were not excited about the state’s primaries or President Joe Biden’s re-election bid.

Ray Buckley, chair of the New Hampshire Democratic Party, said the investigations into Trump and Biden seem to have created a kind of numbness in everyone. It is not clear how carefully interested voters are following the investigative process.

AP-NORC reported that only 47% of Democrats said Biden should run again. On the other hand, 55% of Republicans were of the opinion that Trump should run again, the report said. He added that Democrats’ enthusiasm for Biden remains low. The Gallup poll said Biden’s approval rating averaged 41% over the past three months. Only Jimmy Carter was less popular than previous presidents during the same period. Trump’s approval rating remains at 43%.

Some Republicans are pleased that Attorney General Merrick Garland appointed special counsel David Weiss to investigate the allegations against Biden. They say public and media attention will shift from Trump’s cases to investigations against Biden.

A section of Republicans alleged that the appointment and indictment were intended to counter Republican accusations of bias against the Department of Justice. Weiss is a Trump appointee. Since 2018, Hunter has been investigating Biden. It is alleged that the investigation is not progressing much.

In September 2022, more than 30 Republican senators asked Garland to investigate the allegations against Hunter with Vice. But now Republicans have made it clear they are not satisfied with investigating Vice.

A Georgia grand jury has found former President Donald Trump guilty of meddling in the 2020 election process. Vivek Ramaswamaswamy, an Indian-origin industrialist who is competing to be the Republican Party’s presidential candidate, came out in support of Trump by pointing out the flaws in the grand jury findings one by one.

Observers say that it is commendable that Ramaswamy came forward for the first time to support Trump citing legal aspects while other Republican candidates were silent.
