Man Utd Get Bayern Nightmare For Newcastle in Champions League Group Stage Draw

Manchester United have been handed a difficult Champions League return group, featuring Harry Kane’s Bayern Munich and Turkish champions Galatasaray as well as FC Copenhagen – where new striker Rasmus Hojlund previously played at Lens.

Celtic have an excellent draw as they take on Lazio and Feyenoord from Netherlands in Pot 1. Union Berlin and Royal Antwerp complete this first group.

Manchester United

The Champions League group-stage draw has revealed some tricky fixtures for Manchester United, Arsenal and Newcastle in Group F of this season’s competition. United will face Harry Kane’s former club Bayern Munich when making their long-awaited return after 20 years away; Howe’s Magpies, on their comeback to Europe after being inactive since 2012 have been given Paris Saint-Germain, Borussia Dortmund and AC Milan as opponents in Group F.

Manchester City will likely be pleased with their draw, which sees them pitted with RB Leipzig, Red Star Belgrade and Young Boys in Group G. Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal will face Europa League winners Sevilla as well as PSV Eindhoven and French minnows RC Lens as part of Group E for their first European campaign since 2022.

Celtic have been placed in Group E alongside Atletico Madrid, Lazio and Feyenoord, but Brendan Rodgers can take comfort knowing his team finally made their Champions League return with a victory against Chelsea last Thursday night – click here for more on the draw.

Manchester City and Arsenal joined these two in Thursday’s group stage draw for the competition, drawing in Bayern Munich where Harry Kane plays alongside Danish side FC Copenhagen and German outfit RB Leipzig. Manchester City were given an extremely tough task grouping alongside Bayern Munich who feature Harry Kane while FC Copenhagen are Danish, but their challenger is German side RB Leipzig who sit in their group too.

Mikel Arteta’s Gunners were given an easier draw, with Atletico Madrid joining them and Feyenoord of Netherlands in Group E. Additionally, Mikel Arteta managed to avoid lower-seeded sides such as Borussia Dortmund and CSKA Moscow by virtue of UEFA’s seeding system, with teams divided into four pots based on their national federation/UEFA coefficient ranking – though holders and Europa League winners are guaranteed avoid each other; all other pots contain domestic champions/runner-up domestic champions/finalists then continental champions/finalists

Arsenal

After nearly 20 years in Europe’s premier competition, Arsenal are back for what will be their first group-stage campaign since six seasons ago – but fans may find it difficult to comprehend that Arsene Wenger was given one of the toughest groups ever.

RB Leipzig and Copenhagen could join Paris Saint-Germain – who recently signed Kylian Mbappe – Red Star Belgrade, Young Boys, RB Leipzig and Copenhagen in this pot.

Arsenal would prefer not to face Napoli, Barcelona or Bayern Munich from pot two, however if drawn against any of them they must prepare for an intense fight. Pot three is harder to assess but AC Milan are strong contenders; per Champions League rules they cannot play clubs from their home nation in one group and must win three out of six matches to advance to the knockout stage.

Newcastle

UEFA’s Champions League group stage draw is underway, and some clubs face significant tests as they return to Europe’s elite competition. Manchester United were placed with Harry Kane’s former club Bayern Munich while Newcastle are up against Copenhagen as well as Galatasaray in what could be their worst Group F draw for 20 years.

However, it wasn’t all bad news for Newcastle who finished third in 2020-21 to qualify this time around. The top two teams from each group advance to the knockout rounds with winners facing off against second-placed sides from another group; Feyenoord or Porto could provide Eddie Howe with a formidable challenge while RB Leipzig and Red Star Belgrade would prove worthy opponents for Eddie Howe and co. Meanwhile Arsenal fared much better this year when they were put into groups alongside Dutch giants RC Lens and Ajax;
