Hydrogen Fuel Cell Vehicles are coming to Australia

Hydrogen is everywhere. Being the first and most abundant element on the periodic table. It’s also in water (which covers 2/3rds of the earth), yet we’re just figuring that out..

It’s been around for a long while.

Almost all of big auto have played with Hydrogen fuel cell vehicles over years. GM, Toyota, Hyundai, Honda, BMW, Mercedes Benz and many more. GM back in the 1960s built the Chevrolet Electrovan with a 200 Km range and top speed of 112 Km an hr. Not only that, ever heard of NASA? Yep guess what was used to fuel space travel..

What’s coming to the Australia market?

The Toyota Mirai (it’s already here). Yep in case you didn’t notice it’s already on the Australia market (in small numbers). Toyota are only leasing them currently and they’re only available in Melbourne, of which there’s only one place to refuel. The Mirai was launched almost 10 years ago (but has only now just come to the Australian market). It’s a large, luxury Toyota sedan and frankly a favourite. It reminds me of the early Lexus LS, great looks, great engineering and luxury. It has a range of 650 Km (which is more than plenty) and keep in mind it only takes a few minutes to fill up with some H.

The Hyundai Nexo (it’s already here). Only available to the ACT for now. Yep it’s very annoying again, but the reason being is there’s just not enough refueling stations currently. However more will come. The Nexo has 666 Km of range and again, it’s just refueled in minutes..

The H20 X Warrego. Not available yet, it’s a UTE and Australian made. There’s global orders and it has a range estimated of 400 Km.

Ineos Grenadier (one day). Hyundai and Ineos have both signed a deal to co-develop a Hydrogen fuel setup. Which is fantastic for Ineos, which already has taken the world by storm with the Defender lookalike Grenadier.
