Colonel Rob Long Selected as President and CEO of Space Florida

Colonel Rob Long, a retired commander of the U.S. Space Force’s Space Launch Delta 30 and Western Launch and Test Range at Vandenberg Space Force Base, has been chosen as the new president and CEO of Space Florida by the agency’s Board of Directors. The appointment is subject to finalizing salary and employment terms.

Lt. Gov. Jeanette Nuñez, chair of the Space Florida board, praised Long for his enthusiasm, energy, and passion for the future of Space Florida. Long will assume the role previously held by Frank DiBello, who resigned in June after leading the agency for over a decade.

Other candidates considered for the position included Space Force Maj. Gen. John Olson and Dale Nash, former Executive Director of the Virginia Commercial Space Flight Authority. Ultimately, Long’s experience and dedication to the space industry set him apart and appealed to the board.

As the president and CEO of Space Florida, Long will play a crucial role in advancing Florida’s position in the space industry. Space Florida is a state government agency aimed at promoting and facilitating the development of the aerospace industry in Florida. This includes attracting commercial space companies, fostering research and development, and supporting spaceport infrastructure.

With Long’s extensive background in space operations and leadership, he is well-equipped to lead Space Florida into the future. His appointment brings a fresh perspective and new ideas that will contribute to the agency’s ongoing success.
