Harvard Physicist Searches Pacific Ocean for Remnants of Interstellar Object

Physicist Avi Loeb from Harvard University, known for his beliefs in the possibility of alien visitations to the Solar System, recently led a team on an expedition to search the Pacific Ocean for remnants of an interstellar object. The object in question, known as CNEOS 2014-01-08 or Interstellar meteor 1, had flown over Papua New Guinea in 2014, and its speed and trajectory raised suspicions of its interstellar origin. In 2022, US Space Command declassified data and confirmed these suspicions.

Under the Galileo Project at Harvard, which focuses on locating alien techno-signatures, Loeb’s team used a powerful magnet to sweep the ocean floor in an effort to recover remnants from the object. The team discovered approximately 700 “spherules” during this expedition, out of which 57 have been analyzed so far. Composition analysis revealed an unusual composition pattern of elements from outside the solar system, with high concentrations of beryllium, lanthanum, and uranium, which cosmochemist Stein Jacobsen named BeLaU.

Loeb speculated that these spherules might have originated from outside the solar system or even have an extraterrestrial technological origin. However, he emphasized the need for critical consideration and further analysis to validate these interpretations. It is important to note that Loeb’s tendency to propose controversial ideas, such as his claims about the interstellar object ‘Oumuamua being an alien space probe, has drawn criticism from his peers.

The preprint paper detailing the team’s findings, which is yet to undergo peer review, offers exciting potential for future scientific exploration. However, until extraordinary proof is presented, any claims regarding alien technology should be approached with skepticism.
