Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Mahua Moitra has criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for using the successful soft landing of Chandrayaan-3 on the Moon’s south pole as a campaign tool for the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Moitra referred to the BJP’s “Bhakt and troll army” and accused them of creating nationalistic frenzy around every mission to benefit the party.
India made history with the flawless soft landing of the Lander Module of Chandrayaan-3, becoming only the fourth country to achieve this feat and the first to reach the uncharted south pole of the Moon. However, Moitra believes that the BJP will use this achievement to promote their political agenda.
Moitra expressed her concerns on microblogging site X (formerly Twitter), stating that Indian scientific research of decades is being packaged as “Modi Hai Toh Mumkin Hai magic” by the “Bhakt and troll army”. She called on the people of India to wake up and clarified that her remarks should not be perceived as anti-national.
Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Bengaluru to interact with ISRO scientists and named the place where the lander ‘Vikram’ touched down on the lunar surface as “Shiva Shakti Point”. However, TMC Minister Aroop Biswas claimed that ISRO scientists have not been receiving their salaries regularly for the last 17 months, which drew criticism from the BJP as a “cheap political stunt”.
The advancements in India’s space technology have become the subject of a credit war between the Congress and the BJP in preparation for the 2024 elections.
