AI News Roundup: Amazon to Use Generative AI for Product Reviews, OpenAI’s Latest Developments, and More

Amazon has announced its plans to incorporate Generative AI to improve product reviews. This new feature will provide a concise summary of the reviews, highlighting the product’s capabilities and customer sentiment. While this can be beneficial for shoppers and sellers, some reviewers who put effort into crafting informative and entertaining reviews might feel overlooked.

In other AI news, Snapchat’s AI chatbot, My AI, experienced a glitch where it posted its own Story and stopped responding to user messages. OpenAI has proposed a new content moderation technique using its generative AI model, GPT-4, to ease the workload on human teams. OpenAI has also made its first public acquisition, purchasing New York-based startup Global Illumination, which focuses on AI-powered creative tools and infrastructure.

Furthermore, the Allen Institute for AI has released Dolma, a large text dataset for language models, similar to OpenAI’s ChatGPT. Dolma aims to be the foundation for the research group’s upcoming open language model project, OLMo. Google has introduced updates to its Search Generative Experience, providing users with improved learning and understanding capabilities. Google Photos has also added a Memories feature that allows users to save and share their most memorable moments.

Anthropic, an AI startup, has received $100 million in funding from South Korean mobile carrier SK Telecom. This comes after the company raised $450 million in its Series C funding round.

During SIGGRAPH, AI was a prominent subject both as a tool and research topic. VFX artists showcased innovative uses of AI, and the event featured interesting new ideas in image generation models.
