Scientists Develop AI Tool for “Mind-Reading”

Scientists from the National University of Singapore (NUS) and the Chinese University of Hong Kong have unveiled a groundbreaking AI Tool called “MinD-Vis” that has the potential to venture into the realm of “mind-reading.” The tool uses Brain scans and images to create individualized AI models for each participant.

In the study, 58 volunteers underwent brain scanning using Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) machines. These individuals were exposed to between 1,200 and 5,000 different images, which were used to associate brain scans with visual stimuli. The researchers explained that the “mind reading” process occurs when participants return for another brain scan.

While this technology shows promise, it is still in the early stages of development. There are various issues that need to be addressed, such as obtaining proper consent for assessing individual datasets and establishing legislation for AI research. The AI system developed by the researchers is specifically tailored to each participant.

Earlier this year, the same team of researchers used generative AI to reconstruct “high-quality” video based on Brain Activity. Their findings were published on the arXiv preprint server. By comparing videos shown to participants with AI-generated videos, they demonstrated a parallel between brain activity and visual stimuli.

As of now, this technology is not capable of “mind-reading” the general public, but it opens up possibilities for further exploration into the capabilities of AI-powered tools in understanding the human mind.
