Meyers recently held an event at Pebble Beach to unveil its new Resorter Nev, a lower-speed version of the upcoming Manx 2.0 electric dune buggy. The Manx 2.0 EV is a modern take on the iconic original dune buggy that gained popularity in the 1960s. While the original kit car cost around $500-$1,000 in 1967, the Manx 2.0 EV is a fully-built, all-terrain EV weighing 1,500lbs. It comes with a choice of a 20 or 40 kWh battery, 60 kW charging, 202hp, and a 0-60 mph acceleration in 4.5 seconds (for the bigger-battery version).

The base price for the Manx 2.0 EV has been announced at $74,000. However, the company has not provided details about the cost of optional upgrades such as the 40 kWh battery. Meyers has generated high expectations for the vehicle, holding introductory events in upscale areas like Malibu and Pebble Beach. The company plans to use premium materials in its construction, including a carbon fiber roof. With limited production numbers and a bespoke design, Meyers may face challenges in achieving economies of scale.

Meyers is currently accepting $500 deposits from customers interested in purchasing the Manx 2.0 EV. The vehicle is expected to be shipped in 2024, and the company is looking for 50 beta testers to provide feedback before the wider release.

While the Manx 2.0 EV offers an exciting driving experience, its high price positions it as a luxury toy for wealthy beach dwellers. Compared to higher-production EVs with similar or larger battery capacities, the Manx 2.0 EV may not offer the same level of practicality. Despite its roots in an affordable kit car, the new version’s price exceeds the average cost of a new car in the United States.
