According to reports, Genesis’ largest SUV, the GV80, will be receiving a new range-topping mild-hybrid powertrain as part of its mid-life update. The facelifted model is said to feature the same 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine found in the long-wheelbase version of the flagship G90 sedan. This engine incorporates a 48V electric supercharger that is designed to enhance efficiency and responsiveness.

In the G90 sedan, the inclusion of this supercharger has increased power and torque outputs to 305kW and 549Nm, respectively. These are the same outputs as the current GV80 3.5T model. The updated GV80 is expected to enter production in September 2023, with the new range-topping powertrain.

The mid-life update will also bring significant changes to the GV80 lineup. It is reported that the 3.0-liter turbo-diesel inline-six engine will be discontinued. However, a new coupe SUV body style will be introduced and offer unique suspension tuning. This body style was previewed earlier this year with the GV80 Coupe Concept and is expected to arrive in Australia as well.

The existing 2.5-liter turbo four-cylinder and 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 engines will continue to be available in the updated GV80. Exterior updates are anticipated to include revised lighting elements and new wheel designs.

Inside, the GV80 will receive a new 27-inch OLED wraparound display, providing an overhauled infotainment system. This change was not previewed with the GV80 Coupe Concept.

Since its release in 2020, the GV80 has become a popular choice for Genesis. In Australia alone, 208 units have been sold this year. While it falls behind competitors like the Audi Q7, BMW X5, and Mercedes-Benz GLE in terms of sales, it outperforms models like the Jaguar F-Pace and Maserati Levante.

The updated GV80 range is expected to arrive in Australia in 2024.
