RockShox Introduces Position-Sensitive Damper and Coil-Like Air Spring for DH, Enduro, and eMTB Markets

RockShox has unveiled its latest rear shock, the Vivid, which features a position-sensitive damping system called TouchDown. This innovative technology allows the shock to bypass compression damping in the first 10 percent of its travel, resulting in improved sensitivity and better absorption of rough terrain.

The new Vivid also comes equipped with a DebonAir spring that provides a coil-like feel due to increased air volumes. It retains adjustability for bottom-out resistance with the use of volume-reducer spacers. Additionally, the shock features adjustable hydraulic bottom-out (HBO) for improved performance in the end-travel.

The Vivid is available in Ultimate, Select+, Select, and basic models. Only the Vivid Ultimate and Ultimate DH are available for aftermarket purchase, with prices ranging from £749/$699/€839 to £799/$729/€874.

Key features of the RockShox Vivid include:

1. TouchDown technology, which reduces compression-damping forces in the first 10 percent of travel to enhance smoothness.
2. Shared adjustable hydraulic bottom-out system and shim stack with the Super Deluxe Coil.
3. High-volume air spring for a coil-like performance.
4. Aftermarket upgrades, such as an Ultimate-level reservoir for Select+ and lower models, and eyelet bearings to reduce compression friction.
5. Pre-installed tunes available for popular bike models from Canyon, Santa Cruz, Trek, and others.

The TouchDown damping system allows for easier compression at the start of the shock’s stroke, resulting in a smoother and more supple ride over bumps. The graph provided by RockShox demonstrates how the TouchDown shock requires less force to compress in the initial 10 percent of travel compared to a standard damper.

Overall, the RockShox Vivid offers improved performance and adjustability for riders in the DH, enduro, and eMTB markets.
