German travel company Tui has taken a technological leap by using Chatgpt, an artificial intelligence (AI) tool, to provide holiday recommendations through its app. ChatGPT, developed by OpenAI, has gained popularity due to its ability to generate comprehensible language and media content by analyzing vast amounts of data. Tui has introduced this feature to half of its UK app users and plans to expand its availability in the coming weeks.

The company’s chatbot powered by ChatGPT aims to offer informative responses about destinations, personalized recommendations for excursions, activities, and attraction tickets. Tui is also exploring the potential of this technology in post-holiday customer communication, language translation, and coding.

While the rise of generative AI chatbots has raised concerns about job cuts, Tui states that the use of AI will not replace human workers. Instead, it will enhance their abilities. Call center workers in the Netherlands have already utilized ChatGPT to search for information quickly, reducing phone waiting times.

Tui’s app test revealed the experimental nature of the chatbot as it struggled with basic conversation. However, once the user phrased the request differently, the chatbot provided recommendations for popular tourist sites in France, such as the Louvre, Notre Dame, and the Eiffel Tower.

Sebastian Ebel, TUI Group’s CEO, believes that ChatGPT will simplify processes and improve customer services. Tui also addresses privacy concerns, ensuring that no customer data is shared during AI training.

Many companies, including Microsoft and Moonpig, have embraced generative AI to enhance their products. JustGiving, a charitable donations platform, recently announced that it will leverage ChatGPT to assist fundraisers in writing compelling stories on its website.
