Netflix Expanding Game Tests on TVs and Computers

Netflix is ramping up its gaming efforts by conducting game tests on specific televisions and computers. The company’s Vice President of Games, Mike Verdu, announced these developments in a blog post.

To make games more accessible, Netflix is launching a limited beta test for select members in Canada and the United Kingdom. The test will begin on certain TVs and will later expand to PCs and Macs via Netflix’s website.

Netflix entered the gaming industry in November 2021, initially offering games exclusively on iOS and Android. However, the platform has been working to expand its offerings.

During the preliminary test phase, users will have access to games like “Oxenfree” from Night School Studio and “Molehew’s Mining Adventure.” TV users can play the games using their phones, while PC and Mac users can use a keyboard and mouse.

Verdu stated that the goal is to enhance the gaming experience for Netflix members worldwide by expanding game availability to various devices.

Netflix has also revealed that games on TV will be compatible with devices such as Amazon Fire TV Streaming Media Players, Chromecast with Google TV, Roku devices, and more.

In March, Netflix announced plans to release an additional 40 games, along with the 70 games currently in development through partnerships. The platform also has 16 games being created by its in-house game studios.

Recently, Netflix launched the Netflix Game Controller app on the Apple App Store. The app acts as a virtual gamepad, allowing users to play Netflix games on their TVs through their mobile devices running iOS 15 or iPadOS 15 and later.
