League of Legends: Nerf to Statik Shiv in Patch 13.17

Every year, Riot Games makes adjustments to the item roster in League of Legends to keep the game fresh and exciting. One recent example of this is the marksman item Statik Shiv, which has received multiple nerfs in consecutive patches.

After being absent for three seasons, Statik Shiv made a comeback in Patch 13.10. However, it quickly became apparent that the item was overpowered and being abused by mages in the mid lane. In response, the League of Legends development team has decided to nerf Statik Shiv once again in Patch 13.17 by reducing its AP ratio from 30 to 15 percent.

Initially, AD carries showed little interest in Statik Shiv and preferred the then-overpowered Stormrazor. But after Riot buffed Statik Shiv in two consecutive patches, it suddenly became highly sought after by champions like LeBlanc, Kai’Sa, and Twisted Fate. In an attempt to address the issue, the devs nerfed the item in the following three patches.

However, these adjustments have not been sufficient, leading to the upcoming nerf in Patch 13.17. The intention behind this nerf is to discourage mages, particularly LeBlanc, from building Statik Shiv in the future.

This highlights the lack of versatility and damage in mage items compared to bruiser and assassin items. With the preseason 14 updates soon to be announced by Riot, players hope to see improvements in item diversity. It is crucial for the developers to address the imbalance and ensure that all champion classes have viable options in terms of itemization.
