Tata Play Collaborates with NSIL to Launch GSAT-24 Satellite

Tata Play and NewSpace India Limited (NSIL) joined forces and launched the GSAT-24 Satellite in June 2022, aligning with the Indian government’s Make in India initiative. The satellite is now in its orbital position and Tata Play will begin using it starting today. The enhanced bandwidth provided by GSAT-24 will enable Tata Play to offer its users an improved picture and sound quality, as well as the ability to carry 50% more channels. This makes Tata Play the largest satellite bandwidth provider among all DTH platforms.

The inauguration ceremony took place at Tata Play’s Broadcast Centre in Chhatarpur, New Delhi. During the event, Shri. Apurva Chandra, Secretary Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, expressed his happiness and commended the successful commissioning of GSAT-24, stating that this achievement brings India one step closer to self-reliance in the field of space and communication.

Shri. S. Somanath, Chairman of ISRO, highlighted the significance of GSAT-24 as a revolution in India’s telecommunications space. He emphasized that this milestone showcases India’s aerospace prowess and marks the country’s successful entry into the Demand Driven Mission segment.

Shri. Radhakrishnan Durairaj, Chairman and Managing Director of NSIL, described GSAT-24 as a breakthrough mission that ushers in a new era of satellite television for India. He mentioned that the satellite supports domestic broadcasting services with advanced digital TV transmission capabilities, aligning with the Make In India initiative.

Tata Play’s MD & CEO, Harit Nagpal, emphasized the company’s focus on providing a superior viewing experience. The collaboration with NSIL will enhance video and audio quality and offer more channels and services to Tata Play’s DTH subscribers. Nagpal also reiterated Tata Play’s commitment to using indigenously produced satellites and supporting the Make in India campaign.

GSAT-24 is a 24-Ku band communication satellite solely dedicated to fulfilling the requirements of Tata Play’s DTH application. NSIL, established in 2019 under the Department of Space (DOS), is the commercial arm of DOS and played a crucial role in this project. The entire satellite capacity of GSAT-24 is leased to Tata Play, showcasing the partnership between NSIL, ISRO, and Tata Play in this successful endeavor.
