Twin SUVs: Toyota Land Cruiser Prado vs. Lexus GX

The Toyota Land Cruiser Prado and Lexus GX are two highly anticipated 4WDs set to launch in 2024. While both share a similar shape and platform, they cater to different buyers. The luxurious GX is targeted towards luxury enthusiasts, while the Prado is for adventurous Australians who love camping and exploring.

When it comes to features, information about the Land Cruiser Prado’s specifications for Australia is limited. However, looking at the US-spec Land Cruiser can provide some insight. The top-spec US version comes with features like 18-inch alloy wheels, a 12.3-inch touchscreen, leather upholstery, and round LED headlights.

On the other hand, the Lexus GX is expected to offer a more luxurious interior with features like a 14.0-inch touchscreen, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality. It may also come with a semi-leather upholstery and a 10 or 21-speaker sound system.

In terms of engines, the Land Cruiser Prado is likely to offer a 2.8-liter turbo-diesel four-cylinder engine with 150kW/500Nm, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The Lexus GX, on the other hand, will have a 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V6 petrol engine producing 260kW/650Nm, paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission.

Both SUVs are expected to have off-road capabilities, with full-time four-wheel drive and features like a stabilizer bar disconnect mechanism and multi-terrain select. The Lexus GX will also have an Overtrail variant with additional off-road capabilities, including the Australian-developed E-KDSS suspension and six off-road driving modes.

The pricing for the Land Cruiser Prado has not been confirmed, but it is expected to be cheaper than the Lexus GX, which could command a premium of 50-60 percent over the Toyota counterpart. The Prado’s current pricing ranges from $62,830 to $87,468, and the new-generation model could be around 10 percent more expensive.

As for the Lexus GX, its pricing has not been announced yet, but it is anticipated to be in the range of $130,000 to $140,000 for the highest-spec model in Australia.

Overall, both the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado and Lexus GX offer unique features and capabilities, catering to different preferences and budgets.
