Blizzard has temporarily suspended player trading in Diablo 4 due to an exploit that allowed for gold and item duplication. The exploit involved one player initiating a trade with another player, dropping items or gold in the trade slot, and then closing the Diablo 4 client. When the player logged back in, the items or gold would reappear in their inventory while also remaining in the other player’s inventory.

Blizzard has confirmed that it is working on fixing the issue and will update the community once the ability to trade has been reinstated. The company also stated that any accounts found engaging in this exploit will be actioned in accordance with their End User License Agreement.

To reassure concerned players, Blizzard clarified that those who accidentally traded with a player using the exploit will not face any action. Diablo 4 does not have an in-game auction house like its predecessor Diablo 3, so players have resorted to using external platforms such as Discord to trade virtual goods.

The exploit has affected the game’s economy as some players flooded the market with more gold than what would normally be available. This has sparked discussions among players about the need for improved trading support within the game.

Blizzard released patch 1.1.1 in August, which was well-received compared to a previous update that caused backlash. Diablo 4 Season 1, which started recently, is expected to continue until late October 2023. Blizzard has promised to address community feedback and continue updates through Season 3 and beyond.

Despite its controversies, Diablo 4 remains popular and was the best-selling game in June.
