Tata Play Adds Third Made-In-India Satellite to Fleet, Enhances Partnership with DOS

Tata Play, formerly known as Tata Sky, has joined forces with NSIL (NewSpace India Limited) to launch the GSAT-24 satellite, aligning with the Government’s Make in India initiative. The satellite is now in its orbital position and will be utilized by Tata Play to offer enhanced picture and sound quality to its users. Additionally, it will enable the company to carry 50% more channels, solidifying its position as the largest satellite bandwidth provider among all DTH platforms.

The inauguration ceremony took place at Tata Play’s Broadcast Centre in Chhatarpur, New Delhi. Shri. Apurva Chandra, Secretary Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, expressed his happiness and congratulated the Department of Space (DOS) and Tata Play for successfully commissioning the GSAT-24 satellite. He emphasized that this accomplishment is a significant step towards the self-reliance and independence of India in the field of space and communication.

GSAT-24 is a 24-Ku band communication satellite specifically launched by the Indian Government to meet the DTH application needs of Tata Play. NSIL, established in March 2019, is a Central Public Sector Enterprise (CPSE) under DOS and serves as its commercial arm. The entire satellite capacity of GSAT-24 is leased to Tata Play as the committed customer.
