Beeper: The All-In-One Messaging App

Beeper is the latest messaging app that aims to consolidate all your conversations into one platform. It supports popular messaging services like WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, Instagram, Slack, Google Chat, Twitter, and even iMessage. The idea is to save you time by eliminating the need to switch between multiple chat Apps.

When you sign up for Beeper, you can connect all your chat apps to one account. Beeper functions as a third-party client for these services, bringing them together in one place. It currently supports 15 different platforms. To integrate with iMessage, Beeper uses your Apple ID information to log in on its servers, which relay messages to your inbox.

While Beeper promises long-term connectivity to all supported chat apps, only time will tell if this is sustainable. Some apps, like Slack and Discord, have limited functionality as they are under the “Labs” category. However, Beeper can connect to other chat clients using an open-source protocol, and all communications are end-to-end encrypted.

Beeper’s unified inbox allows you to access all your chats across devices. You can use Beeper on Windows, macOS, ChromeOS, Linux, Android, and iOS. The service is currently free, but a subscription service called Beeper Plus, priced between $5 and $10, is set to launch this year.

The layout of Beeper’s desktop version is simple, with icons representing each connected app listed on the left. You can click on these icons to view conversations from specific apps or see everything merged together in chronological order. While Beeper does not sync contacts across multiple apps, you can still view chats from specific apps individually.

Beeper also offers features like filtering out low-priority conversations, pinning important chats to the top, and marking conversations as low priority or archived. It supports basic messaging features like sending and receiving messages, group chats, images and videos, and emoji reactions. However, more advanced features like video calls and group polls are not available.

Beeper’s interface and behavior can be customized in the settings menu, where you can add or remove chat networks, change message composition and display, sync contacts, and more. The app started as a desktop version, but now there are also Android and iOS apps available.

If you’re interested in trying Beeper, you can join the waiting list and refer to their comprehensive getting started guide for assistance.
