E-mobility company Basigo has launched the E9 Kubwa, a 36-seater Electric Bus designed specifically for the Kenyan market. Two pilot buses have already begun testing with existing BasiGo customers and will operate under various saccos, including Super Metro, OMA Services, Embassava, Citti Hoppa, Metro Trans, and East Shuttle on the Eastlands route.
The E9 Kubwa can accommodate 36 passengers with the option for 18 standing passengers. It has been designed for urban bus operations that typically carry 33 to 41 passengers. The bus can travel up to 400 km per day on a mid-day charge and can be recharged in just 2 hours at BasiGo’s DC Fast charging depots.
Similar to the K6 Electric Bus introduced by BasiGo in 2022, the E9 Kubwa offers an upgraded passenger experience with features like leather seats, WiFi, CCTV cameras, and USB phone charging at every seat.
BasiGo CEO, Jit Bhattacharya, expressed pride in delivering the E9 Kubwa, emphasizing that it is a state-of-the-art electric bus that is cleaner, safer, and more comfortable for passengers. BasiGo aims to make the bus accessible to all bus operators in Nairobi through their Pay-As-You-Drive financing model.
The E9 Kubwa is available for purchase at a price of Sh7.5 Million, with a mileage-based subscription of Sh40 per km for charging and maintenance provided by BasiGo. Additionally, BasiGo has introduced a new lease option to lower the upfront cost for owners.
Each E9 Kubwa Electric Bus is expected to reduce diesel consumption by 20,000 liters and CO2 emissions by 50 tonnes annually, contributing to Kenya’s efforts to promote sustainability and combat climate change.
