The Future Skylines of UK Cities: A Glimpse Into 2100

To celebrate Skyscraper Appreciation Day, Adobe recently showcased a collection of captivating visuals that envision the future Skylines of various cities in the UK. These awe-inspiring images were created using the new Photoshop Generative Fill tool, powered by Adobe Firefly.

The Generative Fill tool, hailed as one of the best AI art generators, has already been utilized to dramatically transform images. However, this project sheds light on its potential application in architecture.

Adobe set a challenge for Photoshop creator Andrea Astarita, asking him to use the Generative Fill tool to imagine how the skylines of five major UK cities might appear in the year 2100. The creative software company observed that as technology advances, enabling the construction of taller and more futuristic buildings, iconic skylines are poised for radical transformation. However, the desirability of this transformation remains debatable, as Astarita’s renderings depict some cities becoming notably darker, with new skyscrapers obstructing the sunlight.

The power of Generative Fill has already been witnessed in photo restoration. Astarita’s project highlights another potential use case, allowing architects to quickly visualize how new building ideas may look and the potential impact on their surroundings. It is a notion that may evoke apprehension, as the rising skylines could result in more people residing in perpetual twilight.

Take a glimpse at Astarita’s remarkable illustrations, portraying the cities’ current and future skylines.
