Shenzhen-based automaker BYD has achieved a significant milestone by producing its 5 millionth new Energy Vehicle (NEV) on August 9th, making it the first automaker in the world to reach this mark. The milestone vehicle, a DENZA N7, was unveiled at a ceremony held at BYD’s global headquarters.

BYD’s Chairman and President, Wang Chuanfu, expressed his excitement and gratitude towards customers worldwide for their trust in their products. He also acknowledged the efforts of industry partners and the dedication of BYD’s employees in reaching this remarkable landmark.

The production of BYD’s 5 millionth NEV took 13 years for the initial million, followed by just 18 months for the next three million, and an impressive 9 months to hit the 5 million milestone. In 2022 alone, sales exceeded 1.86 million units, and in 2023, between January and July, 1.5 million units were sold, including a noteworthy 92,469 units overseas.

BYD’s impact is not limited to its domestic market, as NEVs are now present in over 54 countries, and their electric public transport solutions are operational in 400 cities across 70 countries. The company’s focus on innovation is evident through its milestones like the Blade Battery, DM-i Super Hybrid System, and e-Platform 3.0, supported by over 40,000 global patents. With plans for three new factories in Brazil, BYD remains committed to accelerating the shift towards a greener future.
