8BitDo Retro Receiver Allows Modern Controllers on PS1 and PS2

8BitDo has released a new dongle called the Retro Receiver for PlayStation, which enables players to use modern wireless controllers on Sony’s first two PlayStation consoles. The small wireless receiver, colored in the iconic grey of the PS1, connects to the controller port on the front of both the PS1 and PS2. It supports Bluetooth connectivity, allowing users to link modern controllers wirelessly.

In addition to wireless connectivity, the Retro Receiver for PlayStation also features a USB-C port, giving players the option to establish a wired connection between the gamepad and either console. The dongle is not limited to PlayStation consoles and is also compatible with Windows 10 and 11 PCs.

The Retro Receiver is compatible with a wide range of controllers, including the DualSense, DualShock 4, Xbox Wireless Controllers (including Xbox One and Series X/S models), Xbox Elite Series 2 and Core, Xbox Adaptive Controller, Wii U Pro and Switch Pro Controllers, and various 8BitDo controllers.

This is the latest addition to 8BitDo’s collection of retro receivers, which previously allowed wireless modern controllers to be used on older hardware like the NES and Sega Genesis. The Retro Receiver for PS1 and PS2 is available for purchase on 8BitDo’s website and Amazon, with a price tag of $24.99.
