Laurentian University Appoints Multiple Tenure Stream Faculty Members

In an effort to renew and advance its academic mission, Laurentian University has announced the appointment of several tenure stream Faculty members. The university aims to enrich the student experience and promote interdisciplinary collaboration through these new appointments.

Among the faculty members appointed are Nicole Wemigwans and Adria Kurchina-Tyson of the Faculty of Education and Health – School of Indigenous Relations. Wemigwans’ research interests include Anishnaabe motherhood and parenting, Indigenous methodologies, Indigenous health, Matriarchal and gender studies, and holistic pedagogies in Social Work. Kurchina-Tyson’s research interests revolve around Indigenous epistemologies, queer/2 spirit kinship, interspecies relations, and sexuality.

Sylvain Leduc of the Faculty of Education and Health – Sciences infimières has been appointed with research interests in primary care for transgender, gender-diverse, and non-binary individuals, as well as barriers to access gender-affirming care services in Northern Ontario.

Natasha Gerolami has been appointed in the Library and Archives department, with research interests in information/media policy and ethics, and access, control, and ownership of information. Gerolami will serve as a liaison librarian for the Faculty of Arts and as the coordinator of the Archives.

Valérie Raymond of the Faculty of Arts – French as a Second Language has research interests in areas such as contact des langues, language acquisition in minority contexts, grammatical genres, bilingualism and multilingualism, and the role of culture in language learning. Patricia Orozco Quijano, from the Faculty of Management, brings expertise in the future of work, work integrated learning, international business sustainability practices, and international markets.

Chantal Barriault of the Faculty of Science, Engineering, and Architecture – Science Communication conducts research on learning science in informal environments and science communication’s impact on how people understand and engage with science-based societal issues. Meng Cheng Lau, also from the Faculty of Science, Engineering, and Architecture, specializes in intelligent mobile robotics, computer vision, artificial intelligence, and machine learning. Amina Lalor, from the Faculty of Science, Engineering, and Architecture – Architecture, focuses on land-based design practice and pedagogy, land- and arts-based community engagement in design, and (re)storying and decolonial mapping.

These newly appointed faculty members are expected to contribute significantly to Laurentian University’s growth and academic excellence. The university also anticipates completing two additional tenure-stream appointments in the Faculty of Arts Droit et justice soon.
