Amazon is celebrating four years of Alexa in India by launching a Hindi and multilingual mode. This new feature allows Amazon Echo device users in India to switch between Hindi, English, and Hinglish when making requests to Alexa without changing their language settings each time.

Hinglish, a unique conversational style that has become commonly spoken in many Indian households, was the reason for Amazon to develop the multilingual mode for Alexa. India is the first country where this feature has been launched.

In the Hinglish mode, users can easily make requests like “Alexa, Bollywood ke latest songs sunao” (Alexa, play the latest Bollywood songs), “Alexa, Delhi ka weather kaisa hai?” (Alexa, what is the weather like in Delhi?), “Alexa, solar system ke baare mein batao” (Alexa, tell me about the solar system), and “Alexa, makar rashi ka horoscope batao” (Alexa, tell me my horoscope for Capricorn).

Alexa in India also provides uniquely ‘desi’ and charming responses that customers enjoy. They can ask questions like “Alexa, kaisi ho?” (Alexa, how are you?), “Alexa, kya tumhe garmi lagti hai?” (Alexa, do you feel hot?), “Alexa, filmy dialogue sunao” (Alexa, tell me a movie dialogue), “Alexa, tumhara favourite cricketer kaun hai?” (Alexa, who is your favorite cricketer?), “Alexa, tell me a Bollywood joke”, and “Alexa, kya bolti tu?” (Alexa, what language do you speak?).

To activate the multilingual mode, customers can say “Alexa, speak in English and Hindi” or “Alexa, Hindi aur English bolo” (Alexa, speak in Hindi and English). Alternatively, they can navigate to their Echo device settings on the Alexa mobile app.
