Bing’s New AI-powered Chat Now Supports Third-Party Browsers

Microsoft announces that the new AI-powered Bing will now be accessible through third-party browsers. Bing Chat, known for its use of OpenAI’s GPT-4, offers free access to the powerful AI tool, which was previously only available in the paid version of ChatGPT. Additionally, Bing Chat provides internet access, making it a popular alternative to other AI assistants.

Microsoft aims to capitalize on the growing interest in generative AI by promoting its in-house tools. Users can now access the new AI-powered Bing through the Microsoft Edge Browser, Bing and SwiftKey apps, and Windows Copilot. This integration has led to increased popularity for Microsoft’s own solutions.

Despite the success, not everyone uses Edge, which is less popular than Chrome or Safari. To address this, Microsoft has decided to make Bing Chat accessible from third-party browsers. This update applies to both desktop and mobile versions.

The announcement states, “You’ll soon be able to experience the new AI-powered Bing in third-party web and mobile browsers. This new step allows Bing to bring value-added features such as summarized responses and image creation to a wider audience. You’ll receive most of the benefits of Bing, and we’ll continue to optimize the app for different browsers.”

This change applies to browsers such as Chrome, Safari, Firefox, and others on the market. However, there have been limitations during testing, with a character limit of 2,000 in Chrome and Safari compared to 3,000 in Edge, and a reduced number of questions and answers offered.

While Bing’s expansion to other browsers is a positive development, Microsoft emphasizes that Edge will continue to have advantages. The company encourages users to use Bing in the Microsoft Edge browser for the best chat experience, as it allows for longer conversations, chat history, and other in-browser features.

This announcement coincides with the six-month anniversary of the new AI-powered Bing. Microsoft reports that Bing users have engaged in over a billion chats and created over 750 million images using Bing Image Creator.
