Tata Play Launches GSAT-24 Satellite to Provide Enhanced DTH Services

Tata Play has partnered with NewSpace India Limited (NSIL) to launch the GSAT-24 Satellite, which will enable the company to deliver improved picture and sound quality, along with 50% more channels to its users. This makes Tata Play the largest satellite bandwidth provider among all Direct-to-Home (DTH) platforms.

The inauguration ceremony, held at Tata Play’s Broadcast Centre in New Delhi, was attended by dignitaries, including the Secretary of the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting. The event was hailed as a significant step towards self-reliance in the space and communication sector.

The GSAT-24 satellite, a 24-Ku band communication satellite developed by ISRO, will exclusively serve the DTH application needs of Tata Play. This successful implementation marks a revolution in India’s telecommunications space, driven by advanced indigenous technology.

NSIL, the commercial arm of the Department of Space (DOS), played a crucial role in the mission’s success, and the entire satellite’s capacity has been leased to Tata Play.

Through this collaboration, Tata Play aims to provide exceptional services to its DTH subscribers and reinforce its commitment to the “Make in India” initiative.

With the new satellite, Tata Play will deliver enhanced video and audio quality, as well as an increased number of channels and services to its users. This move demonstrates their dedication to providing a superior viewing experience.

The GSAT-24 satellite’s full operational capacity after exhaustive in-orbit testing signifies a significant achievement in India’s telecommunications industry. This accomplishment highlights the country’s aerospace prowess and marks its successful entry into the Demand Driven Mission segment.

GSAT-24 is the first Demand Driven communication satellite mission undertaken by NSIL following space sector reforms. It will open up a new era of satellite television for India, supporting domestic broadcasting services with advanced digital TV transmission capabilities.

Congratulations to the teams of NSIL, ISRO, and Tata Play for their successful collaboration on this project, and for their contribution to the Make in India initiative.
