Introducing the Innovative TR-E Handlebar by Speeco

Speeco, the Dutch brand known for its Aero Breakaway Bar (ABB), has announced a new track Handlebar called the TR-E (Track Endurance) that incorporates built-in hoods for improved aerodynamics. This innovative design was developed as a legal alternative to the ABB after the UCI deemed it to be against regulations.

The TR-E handlebar features a long reach and a deep profile on the top sections, allowing riders to grip the hoods while providing support to the wrists and forearms. The hoods are tilted inward to minimize frontal area, with a distance between them of just 250mm.

In addition to the unique hoods, the drops of the TR-E handlebar are rectangular in shape for improved grip and stability. Speeco claims that the bar is stiff and offers padding material and grip tape for customization.

Made from aluminium alloy, the TR-E handlebar weighs approximately 380g and is priced at €1,100 (about £950).

Speeco has received approval from the UCI for the TR-E handlebar, allowing Dutch rider Marit Raaijmakers to use it in the ongoing UCI World Championships in Glasgow. This approval also means that the handlebar is permitted for use in the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Strava Launches Tool to Calculate CO2 Savings

Strava, the popular fitness tracking app, has officially launched a new tool that estimates carbon dioxide (CO2) savings from commuting by bike or on foot. The tool calculates carbon savings by dividing activity mileage by average miles per gallon (MPG), then multiplying the result by the standard figure for pounds of carbon emitted per gallon of gas. The figure obtained is then converted to kilograms of carbon.

While this tool provides an approximate estimate, it does not take into account alternative commuting methods such as public transport. Strava hopes that by introducing this metric, it can encourage more users to choose less carbon-intensive means of commuting.
