Cascade County Sheriff Unveils New Incident Command Vehicle

Cascade County Sheriff Jesse Slaughter recently showcased the agency’s new Incident Command Vehicle, which is not only a county asset but also serves the entire north central Montana region. The vehicle was obtained through a competitive grant of approximately $700,000 secured by Undersheriff Scott Van Dyken from the Department of Homeland Security a couple of years ago.

Unlike previous mobile command centers that were often reminiscent of construction site trailers, the new 32-foot rig offers advanced technology, including cameras, radios, and other necessary equipment to effectively manage major incidents in any environment.

The vehicle boasts a rear section that can function as a backup 911 center, equipped with three stations and all the essential communication tools required during emergencies. Towards the front, there is a separate conference area with sliding doors to facilitate command meetings and planning sessions for up to 10 individuals.

Manufactured by a Kalispell company, the vehicle comes with built-in WiFi and will soon have a Starlink connection to ensure reliable cell service from almost anywhere. It also features a mast with infrared cameras for information gathering purposes.

Although the vehicle has not been deployed in an actual emergency yet, it has been utilized for training exercises. It can be utilized in various scenarios such as SWAT operations, standoffs, wildland fires, and search and rescue missions. In the event of a lost child or other community emergencies, the vehicle can serve as the Incident Command post.

The introduction of the new Incident Command Vehicle enhances the capabilities of the Cascade County Sheriff’s Office and will contribute to more efficient and coordinated emergency responses in the region.
