Russian troops have indeed learned to interfere with Starlink communication on the front lines, but this refers to the development and deployment of field “jammers” by the occupiers on the Starlink frequency with the satellite. They can only do this from a specific location and only in certain situations. Previously, the commander of the “Ptakhi Madyara” UAV strike platoon of the 59th Brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Robert Brovdi, under the call sign “Madyar,” reported a case of communication interference in a specific location.

Military communications expert Sergey Flash explained that blocking Starlink is only possible if the Russian army sets up electronic warfare systems at a high altitude, such as a tower or a mobile communication tower, and, from the top, disrupts Starlink’s signal reception from the satellites. “Neither Russians nor Martians can deceive the laws of physics,” he noted. According to his assessment, this method works only within a distance of 500 meters. He emphasized that there is no global threat, but those in specific locations must be aware of the possibility.

Counteracting such an electronic warfare system in this frequency range requires a specific and noticeable antenna. It can be detected, and necessary measures can be taken to maintain communication with Starlink. “So far, I only have one (over several months) unconfirmed fact of some electronic warfare system working,” summarized the expert.

Earlier, Elon Musk refused to help Ukraine and blocked Starlink’s operation during attacks on the annexed Crimea. However, the Pentagon has found a way to assist the Ukrainian Armed Forces in circumventing the billionaire’s ban.
