VinFast Breaks Ground on New Factory in North Carolina

VinFast, a Vietnamese automaker, has begun construction on its new factory in Chatham County, North Carolina. The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by VinFast executives, local government officials, and members of the automotive media.

The new factory is expected to bring numerous improvements to the rural area, including new rail lines, job opportunities, utilities, and highway expansions. North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper praised the local workforce for their expertise and highlighted the state’s commitment to attracting businesses.

Once fully operational, the factory will have the capacity to produce 150,000 vehicles annually. It will manufacture the VinFast VF8 crossover electric vehicle, which has already been launched in the market, as well as its larger sibling, the 7-seater VF9, which has yet to be released in the United States.

However, VinFast has encountered some challenges in establishing itself in the local market. Early reviews of the VF8 have highlighted various issues, including software glitches and defects in materials. The company will need to address these concerns and establish a reliable service center network to support its customers.

VinFast’s entry into the US market is a significant undertaking, and the company will face fierce competition. However, the construction of the new factory marks an important milestone in VinFast’s journey to become a player in the American automotive industry.
