Journalist confirms Pentagon’s purchase of Starlink terminals for Ukraine

The Pentagon has approved a deal to purchase 400 to 500 new Starlink terminals and services for Ukraine, according to a journalist’s confirmation. This move aims to provide Ukraine with reliable communication tools to perform tasks without any fear of interruptions. The decision comes after previous access to Starlink terminals in Ukraine was disconnected by Elon Musk, the CEO of SpaceX. In an unfortunate incident, about 1,300 Starlink terminals purchased through a British supplier ceased functioning in Ukraine due to the government’s inability to make monthly payments of $2,500 each.

The purchase of Starlink terminals by the Pentagon will grant them control over the Starlink signal settings in Ukraine, ensuring that the devices can be used for their intended objectives. However, concerns have been raised about Musk’s influence and the unpredictable nature of his decision-making. His dominant position in the satellite internet market, coupled with limited regulations, has led to unease among military and political leaders worldwide.

This development highlights the significance of satellite internet technology in Ukraine’s military operations. General Zaluzhnyi, a Ukrainian military official, stressed the importance of continued access to Starlink for effective communication on the battlefield. It is unclear if the United States has made any assessment of Elon Musk’s business interests and political affiliations.
