Spire Global Awarded €16 Million Contract by European Space Agency

Spire Global, Inc. has been awarded a €16 million phased contract by the European Space Agency (ESA) for the EURIALO project. This project aims to develop a preliminary design and demonstrator for a global space-based independent Aircraft surveillance system.

The EURIALO project is part of ESA’s program of Advanced Research in Telecommunications Systems (ARTES) in its Directorate of Connectivity and Secure Communications. The goal of the project is to design and demonstrate a novel system that uses a satellite constellation to track aircraft by determining their exact position based on different times of arrivals of radio frequency signals, known as multilateration (MLAT) technology in the aviation industry.

By utilizing Mlat Technology, the system will be able to accurately determine the position of aircraft, providing enhanced surveillance capabilities. This will contribute to increased safety and efficiency in the aviation industry by enabling air traffic controllers to have a real-time view of aircraft movement.

Spire Global, a leading provider of space-based data, analytics, and space services, will work on developing the preliminary design and demonstrator for this system. This contract from ESA highlights Spire’s expertise and capabilities in the space industry.

The EURIALO project is a significant step in advancing Aircraft Surveillance technology and ensuring safer and more efficient air travel in the future.
