Partnership to Develop Data Centers in India

A three-way joint venture has been announced by Digital Realty, Brookfield Infrastructure, and Reliance Industries Ltd. (RIL) to develop high-quality, scalable data centers. The joint venture, branded as ‘Digital Connexion: A Brookfield, Jio and Digital Realty Company’, aims to meet the critical infrastructure needs of companies in India offering digital services. The venture builds upon the successful platform established by BAM Digital Realty and welcomes RIL, India’s largest private sector company and digital transformation leader, as a partner.

Digital Connexion plans to start the development of data center campuses on its existing strategic lands in Chennai and Mumbai. Each partner will own an equal share in the joint venture. This project expands Digital Realty’s coverage, capacity, and connectivity options for cloud providers, hyperscalers, and both local and global enterprise customers in the rapidly-growing Indian data center market.

The Indian data center market growth has been fueled by the increasing adoption of digital technologies, cloud computing, and surge in data consumption. The joint venture will leverage Digital Realty’s energy-efficient data center platform and operating procedures, Brookfield’s in-depth understanding of the Indian infrastructure market, and Jio’s robust enterprise relationships in the digital and connectivity ecosystem.

The partnership aims to accelerate India’s digital transformation by developing, owning and operating the best carrier- and cloud-neutral data centers across India. The team also aims to support global and local customers serving the large and growing Indian market.

In conclusion, the joint venture Digital Connexion combines the strengths of massive digital, connectivity, and technical capabilities of Jio’s ecosystem in India with Brookfield Infrastructure – a global owner and operator of crucial infrastructure, and Digital Realty – provider of the world’s largest data center platforms. This harmony will enable customers access to over 50 metros across six continents.
