SpaceX has announced that its Starship Culinary Torch, designed for searing food in the kitchen, is now in production and will start shipping in early November. The pre-sale of the torch, which is a 1:200 scale model of SpaceX’s Starship, has closed and production is now ramping up.
The Starship torch features an adjustable flame and can be refilled using standard butane canisters. When not in use, it can be displayed as a collectible by enabling the safety lock. SpaceX has stated that the torch has undergone rigorous testing and regulatory approval.
The device received a large number of orders, priced at $175, reflecting the popularity of SpaceX’s Starship. The Starship is a fully reusable transportation system for crew and cargo missions to Earth’s orbit, the Moon, and Mars. It consists of the super heavy rocket and the starship spacecraft.
SpaceX conducted the first test launch of the Starship on April 20. However, the rocket exploded in less than four minutes after take-off. Despite this setback, they are continuing to work on the prototype for the second flight test. Ship 25, the prototype for the second test flight, recently completed a six-engine static fire test at Starbase, marking a significant milestone in the development process.
Elon Musk, CEO of SpaceX, mentioned in an interview that the second test flight is expected to occur in this quarter, with a 60% chance of reaching orbit. If Musk’s prediction holds true, customers can expect to receive their Starship torches after the successful launch of the Starship.
This is not the first time Musk has offered unique products to raise funds for his ventures. His tunneling company, The Boring Company, previously sold flamethrowers labeled as “not-a-flamethrower.” They have sold a total of 20,000 of these devices, inspired by the movie ‘Spaceballs’.
Tesla, another company led by Musk, has also sold novelty items in the past, including Tequila, belt buckles, and a “cyberwhistle.” These products demonstrate Musk’s penchant for offering unconventional merchandise to generate revenue for his companies.
