Pakistan Women’s Cricket Achieves Milestone with First-Ever Domestic Contracts for Players

Seventy-four Talented Women Cricketers in Pakistan’s women’s cricket have received special 11-month contracts, marking an important step. This is the first time this has happened in women’s cricket. Out of these 74 players, 59 are young talents in the emerging and under-19 categories. Additionally, 14 players have already played for Pakistan’s senior women’s team.

This exciting move is going to give a big boost of confidence to Women Cricketers. The women’s cricket season will kick off again on September 1.

74 Talented Women Cricketers Selection Criteria

These contracts have been given to players who have shown impressive performances in various cricket events. These include local cricket tournaments, emerging player tournaments, under-19 domestic tournaments, and the ICC Under-19 Women’s World Cup.

Chosen by Experts

A special group led by former Test cricketer Saleem Jaffar, along with national and academy coaches, selected these players. The aim is to not just recognize their hard work and dedication, but also to make women’s cricket even better in the country.

Growing Women’s Cricket

This decision shows how much the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) cares about women’s cricket. Led by Mr Zaka Ashraf, they want to help women cricketers have good careers, motivate more women to play, and improve the sport. This will also encourage other players to aim for the highest level of play.

Message from PCB Management For 74 talented women cricketers

Mr Zaka Ashraf, PCB Management Committee Head: “I want to congratulate the 74 women cricketers who earned these contracts because of their talent and dedication. This is a big step for the Pakistan Cricket Board and women’s cricket. This isn’t just about signing papers; it’s about supporting the dreams of these amazing athletes. Our women cricketers have shown outstanding skills and dedication on the field, and it’s time we give them the recognition they deserve. We believe that empowering these athletes will not only make women’s cricket better but also inspire a new generation of girls to join the sport.”

Words from the Head of Women’s Cricket

Tania Mallick, Head of Women’s Cricket: “We’re very excited to announce these contracts for 74 talented women cricketers. This is a historic moment that not only celebrates their incredible skills but also aims to give confidence and determination to our women athletes. As the busy women’s cricket season approaches, we are fully committed to giving them the support and resources they need to succeed.”

Training Academies Restarted

Apart from these contracts, the PCB has also reopened training facilities for women cricketers in eight cricket academies across Pakistan. Seven of these academies are up and running. They’re located in Lahore, Karachi, Multan, Peshawar, Abbottabad, Quetta, and Bahawalpur.

Players who received these domestic contracts won’t be part of the women’s central contracts for 2023-24, which will be announced later. Players with these contracts will not only receive monthly pay but also match fees, daily allowances, and a share of prize money.
