Mbappe beats PSG record as champions extend lead

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) forward Kylian Mbappe broke yet another record on Sunday, March 5, 2023, as his team extended their lead at the top of the French Ligue 1 table. The 23-year-old scored twice in PSG's 4-1 victory over Stade Brestois, taking his tally to 32 goals for the season and surpassing the club record set by Argentine striker Carlos Bianchi in the 1977-78 season.

Mbappe's first goal came in the 34th minute, as he ran onto a pass from midfielder Marco Verratti and calmly slotted the ball past the goalkeeper. His second goal was even more impressive, as he received the ball on the edge of the box, dribbled past two defenders and fired a powerful shot into the top corner of the net.

The victory takes PSG six points clear of second-placed Olympique Lyonnais, with just ten games left to play in the Ligue 1 season. Mbappe has been instrumental in PSG's success this season, scoring a total of 32 goals in just 26 appearances. His form has also helped PSG reach the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League, where they will face English Premier League champions Liverpool.

Mbappe's performance against Stade Brestois was yet another reminder of his incredible talent and potential. He has been widely tipped as the heir to Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo as the best player in the world, and his record-breaking season with PSG has only strengthened that claim.

However, Mbappe himself is focused on the team's success, rather than his individual achievements. "It's a nice record to have, but what's more important is that we keep winning and keep playing well," he said after the match. "We have a great team here, and we're all working together towards our goals."

PSG will be hoping that Mbappe can continue his impressive form as they push for a fourth consecutive Ligue 1 title and a second Champions League trophy. With the likes of Mbappe, Neymar, and Lionel Messi leading the attack, PSG have the firepower to compete with the best teams in Europe, and their fans will be hoping that this season will finally be their year.
