Farmers Protests Counter Tear Gas Drones with Kites at Shambhu Border – Riots

Farmers Protests at the Shambhu Border: Protesting farmers are using kites to fight back against police drones dropping Tear Gas. The Haryana Police deployed drones to stop farmers from entering Delhi, resulting in clashes with tear gas and water cannons. Punjab authorities have objected to drones in their area. Despite calls for dialogue from Union Agriculture Minister Arjun Munda, farmers persist with their ‘Delhi Chalo’ protest, demanding MSP laws and other concessions.

Farmers protesting at the Shambhu Border have come up with a unique strategy to deal with police drones dropping tear gas shells on them: they’re flying kites. The Haryana Police have been using drones to release tear gas shells on the farmers as they try to enter the state and move towards Delhi for their ‘Delhi Chalo’ protest.

Objections from Punjab Authorities

The farmers have been flying kites to limit the area where tear gas can be fired by the drones. This idea came about after clashes with the Haryana Police, who used tear gas and water cannons on Tuesday to stop the farmers from breaking through the barricades blocking their march to Delhi.

After a confrontation lasting several hours, farmer leaders decided to call off the protest for the day, only to resume their march from the Shambhu border the next day.

Punjab authorities have raised objections to Haryana’s use of drones at the Shambhu border. Patiala Deputy Commissioner Showkat Ahmed Parray has written to the Ambala Deputy Commissioner, asking them not to send drones into Punjab territory at the Shambhu border near Ambala. Farmers claim that drones dropped tear gas canisters on them even when they were well inside Punjab territory.

Continued Protests and Demands

Thousands of farmers, primarily from Punjab and Haryana, are participating in the ‘Delhi Chalo’ agitation, urging the central government to meet their demands, which include a law on Minimum Support Price (MSP) for crops and loan waivers.

As the ‘Delhi Chalo’ protest entered its second day, farmers started flying kites to counter government drones dropping tear gas canisters on them.

Union Agriculture Minister Arjun Munda appealed to the farmers, emphasizing the need for constructive dialogue and urging them to avoid actions that disrupt the lives of ordinary people.

Despite the ongoing standoff between the Centre and farmer leaders, the farmers continue to gather at the Shambhu border, preparing to break through multi-layered barricades. Young farmers are mobilizing their tractors, ready to dismantle the cemented blocks hindering their progress.

Criticism and Demands

Sarwan Singh Pandher, a prominent farmer leader, criticized the government’s approach, accusing it of prioritizing corporate interests over the farmers’ demands.

Foremost among these demands is the enactment of a law guaranteeing MSP for crops. Other key points of contention include the repeal of the Electricity Act 2020, compensation for farmers killed in Lakhimpur Kheri, and the withdrawal of cases against those involved in the farmers’ movement.

The situation at the Shambhu border remains tense as security personnel fired tear gas shells at the protesters, prompting the farmers to take precautions. They equipped themselves with water bottles, wet clothes, and even protective gear to minimize the impact of tear gas. Despite the challenges, the farmers remain determined to continue their protest until their demands are met.
