Blackburn Left Frustrated After a Goalless Draw With Hull

Blackburn were left frustrated after being held to a Goalless Draw with Hull at Ewood Park on Tuesday, as Jon Dahl Tomasson’s side needed just one point in order to regain sixth position in the Championship table.

Rovers began the match well and attacked quickly from the opening stages, cutting open their opponents quickly. Dom Hyam’s poor pass was intercepted by Regan Slater while Ozan Tufan dragged wide from an advantageous position.

Goals

Hull produced an outstanding defensive performance to secure a hard-fought goalless draw with Blackburn at Ewood Park. Allahyar Sayyadmanesh and Adama Traore came closest for Hull, with Tyrhys Dolan missing Rovers best opportunity as their winless streak extended by four matches.

Blackburn were in control throughout, yet lacked any decisiveness in front of goal to take advantage. Rovers earned another draw to remain sixth place a point ahead of Coventry City.

Chances

Blackburn were left frustrated after playing to a goalless draw against Hull last Saturday and will hope for an improved showing against Norwich on Tuesday. Blackburn currently hold just a one-point advantage over sixth position with this match-up being the most winnable fixture left on their run-in calendar.

Rovers carved Hull apart, but Joe Rankin-Costello’s cross was deflected wide while Brereton Diaz’s penalty appeals were denied by Allahyar Sayyadmanesh’s strong challenge on Brereton Diaz. Meanwhile, Szmodics and Traore hammered wide as Rovers continued probing without success.

Rovers finally had an opportunity in the 33rd minute when Brereton Diaz was presented with an opportunity after Sam Gallagher went down following a challenge by Islam Sayyadmanesh.

Slater had his shot blocked off by Karl Darlow before Dolan attempted a side-footed effort that missed its target by inches.

Goalkeepers

Blackburn have set themselves an uphill task after drawing with Hull City at Ewood Park to a goalless draw, only managing four shots on target and one inside the box despite pressing hard for victory.

Hull City were dominant for long stretches, with Joe Rankin-Costello an ever-present threat in midfield. Rovers did make some inroads into Hull’s box but Hull were adept in protecting their goal.

Rovers started the second half on an uncertain note but managed to create an opening just before half time when Tyler Morton passed to Sayyadmanesh who, despite being well beaten, shot his shot over the bar from outside of the penalty area.

Dolan had the chance to give Rovers the lead just after the hour mark when he found space 12 yards out, yet his shot flew wide with Karl Darlow in position to block. But Hull’s defence continued their impressive resilience throughout this matchup.

Substitutions

Rovers were left disappointed after drawing with Hull at an end-to-end 0-0 game but remained in the Sky Bet Championship play-off positions. Jon Dahl Tomasson’s men had more possession during the first half but failed to put pressure on Karl Darlow or take their chances, failing to put pressure on Darlow and missing several golden chances themselves.

Substitutions proved inconsequential to the outcome. The Tigers struggled to break through Rovers defense while Tyrhys Dolan, replacing Sammie Szmodics 18 minutes from time, missed their best opportunity by shooting straight at Karl Darlow.

Blackburn were left reeling after another disappointing showing and defeat means they have now dropped two of their last three matches.

Phil Brown was forced to make changes during the first half as George Boateng was sent off for a reckless challenge on Callum Elder, leaving the home side down to 10 men. Tigers nearly equalized but Boaz Myhill accidentally scored an own goal that granted Rovers a point in the 86th minute, keeping their lead.
